I fine it a bit ironic that I have started and/or fueled this recent thread.
Those with good memories might recall a post of mine this summer which,
well, basically echoed Scottie's, but with a physical regur--reaction.

However, I'd like to quote a sentence for my baseball-loving fish (I no
longer count myself a baseball or, for that matter, a sports fan, ever since
that World Series between the Red Soxs and those meanies from Sin, Ohio).

This is from 'Hapworth'. For those of you who might not remember this, it's
my own bouquet of parentheses unto you, you on the hard seats with the
peanuts amid the cheers, on the eve of the playoffs:

"It is a break for us that we are fairly magnificent, limited athletes; at
baseball, perhaps the most heartrending, delicious sport in the Western
Hemisphere, even our worst foes would not deny our unassuming prowess."

yours, whose life from seven to twelve thrilled to every boxscore, every
pitch, who threw left, batted right, played first base and pitched, proud
member of the 'Bulldogs' of Alexandria, Virginia (and actually won MVP of
the team at ten),
Bruce
