Hey there folks...just an odd little story I thought I'd pass along....

Apparantly raccoons are not really very big on our friend Salinger...I
had a marine bio internship in Cambridge on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland, and was outside on a break from work laying in the sun and
reading a copy of "22 uncollected stories"...The Young Folks to be exact
when I heard a noise. I turned around, but wasn't wearing my glasses
and as my eyes adjusted I just saw a very full set of teeth under the
picnic table lunging at me, I blocked my face but it got my arm. Turned
out to be a rabid raccoon. I dropped my book and started yelling "YOU'RE
NOT BITING ME!" (among other things that I shouldn't print) while trying
to hit the thing against the table in order to make it let go. It did,
then staggered away and I went to a hospital to begin a series of rabies
shots. Luckily, no stiches were necessary, and I don't really mind shots,
but it was a crazy thing. At the hospital, I was told that raccoons do
not like Salinger, and was given no explanation for this comment...very
strange, just thought I'd pass that along. Hope all is well with everyone,

-pat
