I can think of worse things than being in a locked room with Scottie
but he's right...this list has gone through a lot of different
"stages" with a lot of good people chiming in and it should continue
to ring our bells! I have been with bananafish since it began and I
still believe talking about Salinger helps me make sense of the
world. I have an honors student doing a thesis on Salinger's female
characters coming in today and we are supposed to discuss Franny. I'm
thinking that Franny is Salinger's most fully developed female
character. Yes, Phoebe is more effective, and yes Esme is more
divine, but Franny has the most words...so here's my question:

Is Franny's spiritual crisis something that seems likely today?
