reading addictions...

That was pretty funny reading Levi saying he had to devour everything Salinger read
after reading his first book. That almost happened to me. I read Catcher about 8
years after reading F and Z, then after reading Catcher I went out and bought the
other three of his little white books and read them one after another :). I think
that says a lot too. What's odd to me is that they were (and still are) pretty high
on the enjoyment quotient even though I've been saying I don't think they have the
literary merit of some other books (like _Underworld_ and some of Pynchon's work).

I have to wonder if this is related to Salinger's distrust and professional critics
and his dedication of one of his books to readers who just like to "read and run,"
who simply read to enjoy a good story.
