Gift
This little tile,
a reject from it makers
one of many
from generations of Rampinis
is a best treasure in America
when it comes to tea.
The hand-painted tile brought its yellow,
green, brown, orange and blue
back from Radda, Italy
(a happy place despite its sound)
to picture "Il Volpe"--the fox
stirring in front of a Cypress tree
badly painted out of scale
but almost perfect for the creature
to see beyond.
The animal's pose
and my memory of Italy
warm like the brew often sitting above it.
"The fox knows many things,
the hedgehog knows one big thing."
Heart dancer from moment to fired moment,
That's me, maybe more of a hedgehog
but knowing foxes make better art.
