I first heard it in the movie, "Little Big Man" but it may have actually
been spoken by Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce...I'm not sure...good q

I know that Chief Joseph said "I will fight no more forever", but I 
don't know about good day to die.  I still think it's Japanese.
