I've never been in one. I just stumbled onto this group cuz i wondered how readers/critics explained the suicide (i'd forgotten seymour's name, but "bananafish" is hard to forget, and the scene is pretty haunting). Anyway, you and your husband's reaction was identical to mine: seymour desired to see more of little girls than healthy men oughtta desire. Of all Salinger's work, i've read only Catcher and this one story, but i'm inspired (hooked) by all this bananafish banter to get in deeper. That, plus re-reading Catcher last year when my son had to read it for school, plus the affirmation of seeing that someone else like you found the same thing i found in that mysterious story. Anyway, i'll hit "SEND" like launching a bottle into the ocean, and hope this reaches you, your chatgroup, or someone (alas, i'm still in the internet Dark ages)--- signed, dwrichardson@home.com --------------9728D5F9DD842EE65DA07B83--
