I rather enjoyed this typo in Luke's correspondence with the Man: "Only the most alliterate dullard is not aware of and does not respect Mr. Salinger's desire for privacy." Thanks for the link, Camille. The exchange is brief, but interesting indeed. It seems to follow the same trajectory in miniature as Hamilton's narrative does in _In Search_--a spirited and earnest appeal to the warm heart beating somewhere inside that steel, fireproof chest, turning to a reluctant relinquishment. Luke's respect and goodwill stays far short of Hamilton's bitterness and resent, but I see in both their encounters a little bit of the same experience. It's difficult to reconcile Buddy with Salinger. I wondner whether the exchange is represented in its entirety. -- Matt Kozusko mkozusko@parallel.park.uga.edu
