months and months of holidays? why don't you rub it in?

Hapworth made me "uncomfortable" too. Well, actually it made me really
sleepy, and slightly irate. It made me think, "Who is this author wasting
not only my time but his own with this trash?" but, I have defended our man
for writing it before and I'll be damned if I'm going to stop now. I like
your idea that it's just Buddy's sense of humor; I've always thought it was
jds writing either a very long-winded prank story (like Lucy's idea of jds
getting us all worked up, then giving us that, which is exactly what
happened to me; I haven't looked at any of his stories the same way since),
or something that really only he would have interest in, or a little of
both. Whatever it's supposed to be, I think I'll always (or until he tells
me otherwise) believe it's exactly what dad wanted it to be, or pretty close
anyway.

thank you for the kind words, nathalie

Just go to bed, now. Quickly. Quickly and slowly.

Have I ever asked if anyone here thinks that Buddy commits suicide at the
end of Seymour, an Introduction?

Hello Lucy-Ruth,

I remember being very excited when I received the story, thanks to a
kind Bananafisher -
But I had read before how this story greatly divided Salinger
readers, how uncomfortable they felt about Seymour's verbosity, his
silly reading list and precocious hormonal urges
Hapworth made me laugh and laugh, though, because this endless letter
was just so...hopelessly un-Seymour, well, the haiku-breathing Seymour
I like to picture anyway (also, didn't Buddy just loved to bring up
the fact that his mystic brother was the family member who wrote the
less amount of letters, and the shortest ones too - just imagine the
others!)
In my opinion, Buddy has a very strange sense of humour, and I like
to stay with the romantic notion that little Seymour never wrote much
anything else than the wonderful John Keats poem. I love him for that,
I would also love to know what everyone thinks
Nathalie
enjoying her last day at work before months and months of holidays
