Dear Stephen,

First of all, welcome to the list.

Second, I think that the reason that the literary world pays more attention to THE CATCHER IN THE RYE rather than FRANNY AND ZOOEY is simply because it's more accessible. People recognize themselves in Holden. It's the same reason that most people have read DUBLINERS but not ULYSSES.

I think there's other factors, like the fact that anything overtly religious can create discomfort in a classroom, or even that FRANNY AND ZOOEY are geared toward a more intellectual crowd. And quite simply, most people just don't get it. We don't exactly live in a spiritual world.
