Ah. I hope I didn't make you feel badly-- I was just dropping in some etymology of the name because I thought you might find it interesting. I only knew because my old Granny's people were Kinsellas. Meaning, for those who didn't catch it the first time, black crown or black headed, from the Gaelic.

I don't think it was a delusion. I think that W.P. Kinsella probably made that connection purposely, considering the already existing Salinger link in SHOELESS JOE. I guess an interesting question would be to understand why. Is it just because of the shared last name? Or is there a quality to Salinger's Kinsella that W.P. Kinsella wanted to enhance in his own? I don't know if that question was ever answered. I certainly can't answer it-- it's been too long since my exposure to both the book and the move. The study of it might prove interesting, however.
