Who said anything about hiding behind 'speech'. I put my money where my
mouth is, that's what serving in the military means. Criticize it but don't
runaway from counter criticism like a cockroach when the lights come on.
It's just so popular now days for everyone to blame their personnel woes on
the US instead of rising up in their own community and do the feeding,
clothing, policing and governing. If Diego or whomever wants to see a
better home then stand up and fight for it and build it, but just like we
reap what we sow so do these other Nations. I know that my ancestors have a
tradition of standing up and choosing and acting for what we believe, that
means more than just writing. Words, written or otherwise have
consequences.

'Military crap', at least in the history of this nation, allows you to make
that statement with very little to fear for your flesh.

Really Jim, I agree that we shouldn't be funding anyone who abuses its
citizens but Damm, if we help Iraqis over throw their abusers, I'm fine with
that. If we supported Saddam in the past, even more reason for us to take
him out now. If we shit we should clean it up. But if the Iraqis throw
away this opportunity then it is on their heads. That is the funny thing,
some people want to give their governments a lot of control to take away the
woes of their lives but think that they will remain free. Don't the
Universities teach the basic principles of life; that if some one has the
power to meet your needs and make you happy they have the power to undue it
all or control it all. Sure we are all living in communities but some are
burden bearers and some are burdens. Who do you think decides which
direction to go?

Good luck with your political choices. Gutless? now there is a word for
Jacques to abuse.
Daniel

Ha :). You really don't know my background, do you? Just that I
happen to be in grad school *now.* No, I'm not a "professional
student." I have 17 years experience in construction in Florida with 13
years of management experience. I worked with my hands the whole time
-- running jobs doesn't mean you get to put your tools down. I went to
college while doing this and raising a family. I work for a living now.

Defense spending put clothes on my back and food in my mouth when I was
growing up, since my father was an electrical engineer working for firms
that got a good bit of money from military contracts. I've voted
Republican in every major election since 1984. The point is that it's
irresponsible to hide behind speeches about how great this country is
whenever anyone brings up criticism of it. That's running away from the
facts, a refusal to face what our country has done overseas. It's not
all bad, but it's not all good either. We have to face it and hold our
government responsible. Most of the time, though, we'd rather stay
ignorant children. It's a gutless way to live.

Jim
