Malcs, I had a kind prof who let me do an independent study on FW when I
was an undergraduate.  He wasn't a lit prof, but a history prof and he
gave me _The New Science of Giambattista Vico_ to help me understand the
ideas that Joyce had been using to construct FW.  I ended up writing about
the humor in FW because I loved the punning and couldn't understand a lot
of what was going on, but the point is that if you love to return to
_Ullyses_ then you might want to add FW to your joy.  I think Joyce was
extraordinary as innovator of consciousness and FW may well be one of his
most enjoyable texts once you get the eng profs out of the room.  BTW,
Vico's concept of "the recourso" is not only integral to FW but already
seems ingrained in you by the way you  return to U.  Will
