> I know we played the, "Who would play Holden?" game just recently, but I'm > wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Bob Dylan as Holden Caufield. Boy, that's one I never thought I'd hear! (the only one I ever heard mooted was J.D. Salinger himself, in a stage play. That sure would have been interesting!) I guess Dylan is a sort of anti-establishment figure like Holden, but with one big difference - when you look at it, Holden doesn't actually subvert much in any place other than his mind. If you met Holden you'd never know about all the rebellion that was bubbling away under the surface there, whereas Dylan was more a `doer' - actually doing his own thing, hanging out with poets and getting arrested etc. Unfortunately this is all rhetorical as if I'm not mistaken he's just about old enough to play Old Spencer (: Actually, there's an idea - Bob Dylan as Mr Antolini) Has anyone seen a kid's series on Cable called `Eerie, Indiana' (actually a pretty good show) ? There's a kid with grey hair ( ! he doesn't know why because ... well, it's a long story. He doesn't know who he is or where he came from) on it who I've always thought would be a perfect Holden. The sister of the main character would additionally make a perfect Sally Hayes. (She also played a French femme-fatale on `The Wonder Years' if that jogs your memory any.)
