I read "Catcher..." for the first time about six months ago. I instantly fell in love with Holden. He's my favorite Salinger character, not because I look at him as any sort of a role model and not because I identify with him really -- there's just something loveable about him. Yes, he seems rather negative, but LIFE is pretty nagative sometimes. Bad things happen every day, and while most people overlook the little things, they bother Holden. I look at him as the one sane person in a really insane world. BUT I saw something really interesting on T.V. this morning. It was a show (One of those Unsolved Mystery-type shows...except this murder had been solved) on the murder of actress Rebecca Schaffer. The man who murdered her had a copy of "Catcher" with him, as did the man who shot John Lennon and the man who shot Ronald Regan. I'm interested in why people think this is -- what's the connection? And don't blame it on Holden :) ~Valerie~ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
