I read "Catcher..." for the first time about six months ago. I instantly 
fell in love with Holden. He's my favorite Salinger character, not 
because I look at him as any sort of a role model and not because I 
identify with him really -- there's just something loveable about him. 
Yes, he seems rather negative, but LIFE is pretty nagative sometimes. 
Bad things happen every day, and while most people overlook the little 
things, they bother Holden. I look at him as the one sane person in a 
really insane world. BUT I saw something really interesting on T.V. this 
morning. It was a show (One of those Unsolved Mystery-type 
shows...except this murder had been solved) on the murder of actress 
Rebecca Schaffer. The man who murdered her had a copy of "Catcher" with 
him, as did the man who shot John Lennon and the man who shot Ronald 
Regan. I'm interested in why people think this is -- what's the 
connection? And don't blame it on Holden :)
