To those subscribers who are either collectors, or compulsive collectors,
or somewhere in-between, I ran across this service on a site that sells
out-of-print books. The company is called Quill and Brush. They have a
web site at:
www.qb.com
Or they can be mailed at:
firsts@qb.com
Their "Author Price Guides" serve as, well, pricing guides for rare
editions, but are also useful in identifying variant copies of a book's
edition. Their Salinger guide is $1.50, but is only three pages long and
does not contain any information about the magazine articles. (For that
information, you'll have to rely on the excellent 1984 bibliography, or on
Stephen Foskett's home page, which appears at
http://slf.gweep.net/~sfoskett/jds/index.html)
Sublette, Jack R.
J.D. Salinger : an annotated bibliography, 1938-1981 / Jack R. Sublette.
xvii, 257 p. ; 23 cm.
Garland reference library of the humanities ; vol. 436.
New York : Garland Pub., 1984.
Also, if you're a dedicated collector, you may want to quibble about the
prices. But by and large it's a decent addition to any obsessive
collector's shelf. (You know who you are, those of us in that category.)
