Hi everyone,
Coming from someone about the same age as Pete I feel I must comment on the
problem of calling sex, "making love." My experiences have taught me that sex
is not something that is planned or premeditated as if it is a criminal act,
but when the time comes, we know it and it feels right and in its best form it
is everything that we aspire to be coming out as truth in one wonderful and
amazing experience. When the time comes to make love, we know it and that is
all there is to it. The rightness is in the knowing that what you are doing
is right and true. And when this happens all the worries about performance
and everything else go out the window because emotion and touch and feeling
take over and if you are lucky enough to be in love then all is well and you
will fall asleep with a smile on your face not because you have just made love
for the first time but because you are lucky enough to be laying to the person
next to you. I feel blessed to be one such person.
As for drinking, yes in college and high school I knew many many people that
would drink because it was cool, but I also knew and know many people who
drink because it has become a part of them and not necessarily meaning they
are alcoholics but that drinking for them is just something that they do
sometimes. As for myself, I drink occassionally and when I do it is usually
to get drunk to escape from something. Granted this is not the best reason to
drink and maybe there are no good reasons to drink but I do know that if I
just want to let go for a night I know drinking will better able allow me to
do that.
While I know of many who disrespect alcohol and sex and sometimes both
simultaneously =), but I also know just as many who are conscientcous and who
respect both as well as each other.
I apologize to Will, the English professor for my run-on sentences and my poor
spelling and to everyone if my email is incomprehensible but it is late and I
am only on my computer because I was awaken by the "UH_OH" message from ICQ
when you receive a message and yes I will be quiet now and stop rambling.

P.S.
I wonder what old Holden would think about all this. When he is in the club
trying to order drinks is he doing so to appear older and look "cool" or just
because he feels like getting hammered? Also, what does everyone think Holden
would do if he was put in the situation of actually being on the verge of
having sex with a willing participant? Would he go through with it or would
the Catcher in the Rye in him prevail? Is Holden a teenager at heart or a
beautiful and emotion driven person? Once again PHOOEY on me for being lazy
and vague.
