I suppose some of the really good kids, the ones who would report
>people for smoking in the bathrooms, might not have been drinking in high
>school, but even they start drinking in college.

Hello, my name is Pete. I never drank once in high school. I despised it when
I saw my peers (though not my friends) indulging in it mainly because they
thought they were about the coolest, most mature things on the planet when
they drank. Few people I saw drank for recreational purposes or just in
moderation (the ones that did were about the best people I ever interacted
with). I am going on my second year of college, and I'm still "clean" as they
say. No drinking, no smokes, no drugs, not even sex (Wait a minute! Isn't
EVERYONE supposed to have sex in college?? you ask). I've talked about the
issue with several of my friends. They all find it deplorable that people
take a simple act like drinking beer and a potentially beautiful and
fulfilling act like sex and make it all a right of passage for adolescents.
It leaves a bad taste in my mouth about sex in general, which, for a long
time, I have never been able to call "making love." It's always been "sex" or
"fucking" if you'll excuse my vernacular. With all my experiences around
excessive drinking, it's only come off as childish, presumptuous, and stupid.
Completely an act, as if being more drunk is some sort of status. As for sex
(excuse my tangent, but I am ranting a bit), no one respects it anymore, but
hopefully when I marry I'll find someone who's willing to give it the
emotional, mental, and physical reverence that sex deserves, and I pray dearly
that we are both happier because of it. I also hope that I don't ejaculate
prematurely.

Pete.
