Sean adds:
When I was 17, I went to a German school near Heidelberg for 3 months.
My impression from that experience is that American teenages drink far
more than their European counterparts (well, at least their German
counterparts). When I got together with the other Americans in my
exchange program, we'd invariably end up sloshed in some pub. That
wasn't something the German kids seemed to like to do. I always
attributed this to the fact that alcohol is a 'forbidden fruit' for
American kids, so naturally we are more intrigued by it.
