    If you were no more than some tender young thing offering
    her latest effort to this friendly little reading circle of ours,
    I suppose I'd also be joining in the chorus oohs & aahs
    which must already have caused you some embarrassment.

    Unfortunately we both know that you signed on long ago
    with a very much less forgiving bunch - the professionals
    who only ever play for keeps. And whose personal standards
    are far too exacting to be affected by considerations of kindness
    or generosity.

    Those fucking rats will make just one marvellously identifying
    line coming out of the mouth of the character I suspect you are
    already beginning to realise for a piece much more considerable
    than some standardised old anecdote about an ugly duckling being
    dumped at a dance.
