Dead certain. He was lost, drifting, & looking for a way to be something.
To be the Catcher, he'd have a purpose, a place, and know who he is. He's
looking for a handle, a grounding, & that would fulfill his needs and give
him purpose, justification for living. He's still asking "why am I alive
instead of my much smarter, wiser & more ethereal brother?" He wants to be
the Catcher to give him a reason to BE.
