but every picture i've seen of leonard he is
beardless. i especially refer you to the profusely
illustrated 'a marriage of true minds: an intimate
portrait of leonard and virginia woolf'--don't recall
the author.
unless cunningham *intentionally* mentioned the beard
to invoke lytton strachey in the mind of the reader.
that virginia's life would have been better had she
honored lytton's marriage proposal.
but i doubt it--both ways.
from cunningham's acknowledgments page it seems to me
he came to woolf recently, and made a subconscious
slip.
