Teekid, are you here?

Hi all,

Saw the story in the paper and, recalling Mel Gibson's scenery-chewing voyage
through Conspiracy, wondered if young Jeffery Parson might have a copy of
Catcher somehwere in his room...

"Jefferey Lee Parson, a senior at Hopkins High School, was arrested without
incident by FBI and Secret Service agents in a raid at 8:20 a.m. at his
parent's apartment, FBI Special Agent Paul McCabe said."

Jefferey, it turns out, has apparently not yet discovered girls and so spent
his time creating one of the wide-spread variants of the "Blaster" worm. But
rookie-geek that he is, he included code that told each infected computer to
contact his web site, www.t33kid.com, and register itself. Now, since
Jeffferey's own online screen name was "teekid," it apparently wasn't all that hard to
trace all this stuff back to our boy.

But what about the boy? Here's the first Salingerian paragraph, complete
with sneaker details:

"Parson appeared in US District Court in St. Paul Friday afternoon,
represented by federal assistant public defender Lyonel Norris. He made no plea.
Wearing a gray t-shirt with a picture of a snarling bear on the back over the
words "Big and Bad," khaki cargo shorts and white high-top athletic shoes, the
burly, bleach-streaked Parson told Magistrate Judge Susan Richard Nelson that he
lives with his parents, had no independent income and "about $3" in his bank
account."

And later, it gets better....

"Parson's peers and neighbors said he was a computer genius who was
withdrawn, moody, and sometimes struggled with depression because of his large size.
Parson is 6 foot 4 inches tall and wieghs more than 300 pounds."
"He lives with his parents, Bob and Rita, and an older sister Lauren...."

Wait. I know this dude... It's comic-book guy from The Simpson's!

Anyway, this all amused me this morning and I thought it had the touch of
"crazy, lonely Salinger-reader" about it.

I'm off to my life.

All the best,

--John
