hi. i don't have a copy of franny & zooey here, so i (unfortunately) can't back this up with hard evidence, but still, i wonder what it is exactly that makes everyone think that franny was sexually active (as seems to be the group consensus so far)? sure, there's evidence that they made out and everything (i recall lane remembering "kissing her for two hours in a borrowed car" or somesuch), but that doesn't necessarilly mean they were having sex, does it? salinger (in citr, holden & the prostitute) has proved that he's not afraid to more directly confront the issue of sex, so why hedge around it here? back then, and still now, it is possible for two people to have a serious, committed, relationship and not jump in the sack. all the same, if someone can show me evidence to the contrary, i'd love to see it. andrew.
