Malcs, I check it out...I have between 10-20,000 words in a story in progress called "Ordering Experience" that does indeed hack into the heart of my taxi driving life but it's in process...yeah, my parents have never been pleased with that aspect of my life but I never return to new york without wishing I could drive a cab, but only for a few hours and only because I'm always in love with the past... BTW, one of my favorite rides was with Paul Simon. I picked him up while listening to Elvis Costello. He pleasantly asked if I liked Elvis Costello and then added, that Costello hadn't done much new lately. I asked him (with heavy "tude") if he was one of those types that needs something new from musicians to appreciate them...heavens no he said, and I laughed saying I loved his (paul simon's) music since his earliest days. I stopped the cab and turned around and said thanks. For what he asked. For one of the best nights of my life, I said. Huh, he asked. I went on to describe one of S&G's last concerts--one in Queens with a full moon in l971 (I think) when I was very much love. Could never forget that moon and Garfunkel doing a bridge over troubled water...it still haunts me today. Tried not to let him pay for the cab ride--wanted him to see me as all faceless folks in his audience trying to just say thanks but he tossed a twenty at me and told me he was the one should be thanking me... the truth if you believe cab drivers in the first place, will On Wed, 12 Aug 1998, Malcolm Lawrence wrote: > WILL HOCHMAN wrote: > > > Taxi driving is hard work-- > > Great anecdote, Will.
