Just wanted to say that Salinger was the only person to understand what =
the real world is like and wrote about it without any sugar coating or =
misleading information. He understood that relationships lead to a =
violation of the ability to be yourself and lead to the breaking down of =
the person you really are...

He knew that you must get away form society and everyone in it to be =
sane and to be who you really are...

Relationships and people only hurt you...you have to decide the people =
you want close to you and leave everyone else alone. =20
We are all Glass houses and everyone else is throwing rocks at us.

This may sound really depressing but I am a realist with optimistic =
views...knowing that things will get better, but seldom are now.=20

It is very late, for me anyway, and I am beginning to ramble and am in a =
semi-coherent state...

It is amazing that you are able to write about things that make =
absolutely no sense and be talked about by critics and scholars for the =
rest of your life (or maybe they do make sense)--case in point...

It is Christmas time in New York...

A man is waiting for his girlfriend, who is getting ready in the =
bathroom. He sits in her bedroom talking to her through the door. They =
continue to converse about the way her mother hates him and he =
inadvertently picks up a letter, laying on her nightstand, which states =
this same fact--" I cannot believe you are still seeing Steve, he will =
never be good enough for you, I don't even think he tries..."

After he dashes the letter into the fireplace he begins to talk to the =
woman about an Christmas decoration that is on the top of a large bank =
building downtown. It is a large statute of Santa Claus and his =
reindeer. He says that everytime he sees the statue it reminds him of =
the true meaning of Christmas and how it brings back memories of his =
childhood...of drinking hot cocoa and decorating the tree.

After telling her this he leaves her apartment and takes a walk on that =
very brisk evening.

The next morning she is reading the headlines in the newspaper and on =
the first page near the bottom there is a article that is titled " =
Christmas decoration on JP Morrow building destroyed." On the next page =
is a article that also catches her eye "Man found dead near JP Morrow =
building"

What does it mean?=20
