Dear universalist-you-know-who, and the all fish at sea,
I do hope you pardon me for writing in public, but Gene's latest
survey made the content appropriate for posting, and I thought it
a nice story to share. I am sure you (singular) will know what
I'm reacting to, and the rest of you (plural) can have something to
think about now that the supreme court (aside: I ponder here
Diana Ross behind the bench singing "You can't hurry counts, no you
just have to wait", forgive me. Forgive me, I said) has given its
decision.
Pete Seeger tells of Woodie Guthrie's final check-in to the hospital
and recreates the following dialog:
Nurse: Okay, Mr. Guthrie, what should I put down for your religion?
WG: <silence>
N: Are you a Catholic, a Protestant? You aren't Jewish, now, are you,
Mr. Guthrie?
WG: <silence>
N: Come on, we have to put something down, what should I write?
WG: Put down "All"
N: Excuse me, what was that?
WG: I said all, or nothing.
Pardon me for probably mangling it,
all the best,
Mattis
