Mmm, among my immediate group of friends, about equal numbers of boys
and girls smoke, boys more if anything. However, I was talking about it
with my friend last night and she commented that science and
engineering students seem less likely to smoke than arty types (who
have presumably been corrupted by people like Salinger!) and those
fields are dominated by men. There is though, certainly no stigma
attached to girls and women smoking, as there once was (although this
changes when they get pregnant, in which case one puff of a cigarette
is enough to condemn then to everlasting damnation). So, overall,
you're probably about right.

Love, Lucy-Ruth
