In all the responses to Gene's survey, has there been even
one Bush supporter? I doubt it. Where did those
other votes come from that made this election a dead heat?
Were they ALL manufactured in Austin? Yet this view seems
typical of such other lists as I belong to: a poor mental defective
bloke promoted by money & nepotism away beyond his true level.

I must say it's a privilege to find oneself in the company
of so many brilliant & right-minded people, none of whom
owe the smallest debt to their mums & dads.

i owe a huge debt to my mother and father, but that doesn't mean i should
have to think like them (they are/were both conservatives, although they
became closet tree huggers in their later years), nor should i enjoy special
privileges (i.e. the republican party nomination) because of who or what
they are or were. obviously getting the nomination from a major party
requires back room dealing and political favoritism amongst the big shots of
the party, but that's why i voted for nader. in reality neither gore nor
bush can be considered the lesser of the evils they represent, because the
evils are the same. a nation effectively ruled by two political parties
both receiving their funding from the same global corporations is not a
democracy. that, to me, is what caused the "dead heat" (although only one
of the two went over 50 million votes), the fact that neither of them really
represents the will of the voters or the good of the people, but most people
felt compelled to make the choice, so at least appearances could be kept up
(what happened to "none of the above?"). furthermore, the votes that made
the election a "dead heat" did come from austin, and numerous places like
it, rural areas and cities like san diego dominated by military bases or
traditionally conservative populaces. i don't think jds is very popular
amongst such people, liberal that he is, so probably most of them wouldn't
subscribe to this list. notice that the vote was split north, west coast,
and hawaii for gore with south, interior states, and alaska going to bush.
also, there is a bush supporter here: you. i don't think there's anything
wrong with supporting bush if that's who you believe you should support, i'd
much rather everyone support someone than just give up on the system
altogether and obviously you have the courage to defend yourself in the face
of opposition. calling yourself a "poor mental defective bloke" just
because you've run into people who don't agree with your views is pretty
drastic. clearly you are not defective or you wouldn't be able to voice
your argument. i'm in the military and my liberal thinking sticks out like
a sore thumb, but i know there isn't anything wrong with me just because i
work with a lot of conservatives.
it's good to have differing views around. if we all agreed on everything
all of the time, what would be the point in discussing anything?
finally, i know that i am not brilliant and whether or not i am
right-thinking is up for debate, but thanks for the compliment.
