Scottie,
Likewise, what a sour thing to say about old JD, especially when the
immeasurable debt many of you feel is owed in part directly to him for
risking his life on Utah Beach and in the Hurtgen Forest.

I have another one for you, Mr. Bowman. Have you ever been to America?

'... helping me understand America's love affair
    with vulgarity and stupidity ...'

What a sour thing to say about your fellow countrymen -
to whom many of us feel an immeasurable debt.

Where Salinger has helped me is in offering a reminder
of the windiness & pretentiousness of self-styled intellectuals
    everywhere.
