 Diego,
I have to agree with you about Roy. She is a very beautiful woman.
The reason I picked up the book is because several of my friends are Indian,
and at one of those girly things where we all talk about silly things, one of
them mentioned if she could look like any woman, she said she would look like
her, and take her intellect as well. Funny you should mention her looks,
also.
The God of Small Things is a wonderful book, both in plot and
language. The story almost covers too many things (love, lust, family, caste
system in India, Communism, war, all that and more) but she handles it quite
well. The language is the thing that got me. It is almost close to being
gimmicky, because of all the words in the middle of sentences being
capitilized, and repeating things over and over to make a point. But because
it is so poetic, it really captures the essence of the book. I really can't
say anything bad about it.
As for John Mayers and Ryan Adams, they are not the same thing at all.
John Mayers is that sort of commercialized soft alternative type of music (
I am not really sure what it is called.) Ryan Adams sounds almost like Bob
Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, because of the harmonica and long songs with no
chorus. Adams is like rock and bluegrass and folk together. He is really
very good.
