Here, here! Huzzah!

I am a new member to the list and have enjoyed greatly this debate about the
relevance of _Catcher_ and Holden. Manhattan is a wonderland. Much like
London. I believe in 84 Charing Cross Road Helen Hanff's Brit friend tells her that
whatever England she is looking for she will find waiting for her. Something
along those lines but stated with more eloquence. Manhattan is quite the same.
If you live in Manhattan, or visit regularly, if you are looking for
something, including time travel (depending on the imagination and fancy), you will
find it there.

I cannot be at the pond in Central Park and not think about Holden and the
ducks. Where do the damn ducks go? More importantly, I cannot help but think
about Holden. His universal questions. His nostalgia at the youthful age of 16.
His questioning. I believe if Holden were flesh and blood, sitting in Central
Park today he would have a cell phone in his pocket and be mocking everyone
carrying a cell phone. I suppose that is the bit of Holden that I still carry
about with me as an adult. He is a universal. Alter the culture, change the
neighborhood, change his language, Holden as a universal man skeptically
questioning himself and his society holds water. Tightly.

Thanks to all for the inspired thoughts this Snowy (in the mid-Atlantic)
Sunday.
