Nope, December 7th, 1949. According to the press kit to *Closing Time*, Tom
was born in a taxi cab with a three day growth of beard. As soon as he popped
out he told the driver to "head for Times Square on the double."
In a later interview, he claimed that the driver wouldn't let him out of the
cab until he had come up the fare -- which was pretty tough since he didn't
have pockets.
