Well i'm not so sure. there was a sequel to gone with the wind (2 in fact) - not sure how well they did - not bad i think. i also think that a sequel of sorts would be possible if it were written in the right way and with the right attitude. i've heard this idea that it would be impossible too many times. the book doesn't deserve quite that much exhaltedness in my view. I've always wondered what became of holden - rather i feel i've always known. i think others have too and it would be nice to see what became of him or tell the story of the year that followed. i happen to know of a friend who's attempted this (as yet unpublished) and it's not a bad read. of course whether it could ever be published is another matter. probably not.
