Thank you, Kim, for the two below contributors notes from the two Story
stories, "Long Debut" and "Elaine."
Now, all I need is that byline from right below the title "The Heart of a
Broken Story" in the original magazine...?? Anybody have that one?? Guess
I'll check e-bay...

LONG DEBUT Contributors Notes:
J. D. SALINGER writes, "I'm in the Officers, First
Sergeants and Instructors Prep School of the Signal
Corps, determined to get that ole message through.
...The men in my tent--though a damn nice bunch--are
always eating oranges or listening to quiz programs,
and I haven't written a line since my
re-classification and induction." But he is one of
many of "our boys" who are doing an important job and
we are rooting for all of them. He is a native New
Yorker, twenty-three years old, and his first story,
"The Young Folks," appeared in the March-April, 1940,
issue of STORY.
> ELAINE Contributors Notes:
> "J. D. SALINGER is a young New York writer who is at
> present in Germany with the U. S. Army. STORY has
> published a number of his pieces, including his
> first
> published story which appeared in this magazine
> several years ago."
