Ashley, YES, I do agree salinger and woolf have similar ways of loving
their characters!  I think it's in their narrators and that space where
character and author cozy up to get the job done...there's a confluence of
authorial and characgter personae for both authors that has been clear to
me since I studied VW with Mitchell Leaska at NYU...but I had to break
with him over my salinger disseratation.  Prof leaska was not happy with
me when I showed him that a previous salinger dissertation he had chaired
was flawed--nonetheless, we had both seen what you allude to, so thank
