It startled me at first, too, when I first
realized what was going on... I sort of
passively puzzled over any particular purpose
for a Glass in that story...
I think it was more of a nod to people like
us, to
Bananafishers: people who would notice.
Besides a brilliant story about suburban
madness, we also get the
little bonus of finding out the details of
Walt's rather clandestine demise...although,
knowing those details, I feel a little alliance
with Buddy's assertion in "Carpenters", that
it's too ridiculous an accident to mention.
