I fear that what I wrote was somewhat misunderstood. In my humble Marxist opinion, we can't ignore the messages that these students have gotten for a large part of their formative years - money good, no money bad. I don't subscribe to that particular view of life myself - but we have to come to terms with the messages that these students were given in the materialistic 80's. Their attitude toward money and education as a means to an end may be misguided, but can't be ignored if, as educators, we are going to teach them. COnversationally, I grew up in a family of educators - not rich financially, but rich in ideas and discussion and knowledge. I am a far wealthier person for that, then I will ever be for getting a job that pays me millions. Will wrote: but I do not accept your emphasis on money and still believe it creates more problems than it solves.
