Being on a list with Bruce sometimes makes me feel like I am summering at an English countryside manor with good friends in those last dying (but pleasant) decades that flickered out as modernism arrived on the continent. The pathetic fallacy has not yet darkened the landscape, and the birds that will soon sing Hardy's dreary centuryending lament are still in their chirping, bubbling infancy. A diversion! 1. Paradise Lost (books I, II, VII and IX) 2. "To His Coy Mistress," Andrew Marvell 3. "Astrophil and Stella," poems 1 and 15 4. "The Sun Rising," John Donne 5. "Lycidas," John Milton -- Matt Kozusko mkozusko@parallel.park.uga.edu
