Can't say about the bananafish remarks on the two stories except if they
were out of line I'd have cuffed Sonny's, Matt's or Stephen's virtual ears
at the time it was posted...I can say that Warren French's take on the
stories is on target though.  Of course I feel that about most of his
Salinger criticism.  I just got a long letter from Warren and though he
has damned me for being too absorbed with this list, I still admire his
critical readings too much not to encourage others to notice them. will
