I say, as an aside (but without a bouquet of parentheses, dear reader), three cheers for all the lurking people who are finding a voice and speaking up in here! I'm reading again a book called Narrative Design, by the great writer Madison Smartt Bell. It's a textbook of sorts for writing classes, and he describes the tyranny of the classic "writing workshop," where only a few students speak out and everyone tries to please everyone else, and it ends up that everyone sounds the same and everyone's work resembles everyone else's. So, it is (as Zooey would say, Elizabeth) *goddamned* good to hear from all the people who thought they had to sit on the sidelines. Guess what? There are no sidelines here, and the more you throw in the pot, the more nourishment for the rest of us, and the more variety and the more life. --tim
