Well, I'm a 19 year old Asian film student hoping to
transfer to NYU as a filim/dramatic writing major. I
read "Catcher in the Rye" for the first time my
freshman year of highschool. After that, I quickly
read Salinger's other published works. I haven't read
all the obscure little short stories that have been
published in magazines but no where else; just to let
you know where I'm coming from.
I think i'd be interesting to see what you're class
already knows about Mr. Salinger; have they read
"Catcher in the Rye", maybe heard of the book being
associated with Mark David Chapman and John Lennon,
etc.. etc... If it turns out they only know the book
in a negative light, then maybe you could work on
changing that to a more positive one. I know that's
pretty general stuff, but those are just my thoughts.:)
