Logging on this morning (tell the reader the particulars), in my
pine-paneled cabin located in the northwest corner of San Francisco, in
rumpled pajamas and bathrobe, Irish Breakfast tea in hand, I skimmed the
subject lines of fifteen posts. And then started reading.

Buried within Matt's Euro 2000, I was greeted with the only mention of
Louise (and of course there was the wonderful howler by our dear Swede,
TLM). But no posts from The Lady Herself! Alas, this morning's lull is a
bit of a downer. (Surely the Mystery of Louise is as interesting (to some)
as the Raging Debate regarding "American Beauty." I must confess I missed
Sonny's post with the first insight into the identity of Louise. If someone
has it handy, would it be possible to send it my way?)

Until then, I think I'll try to track down that Nabokov quote Louise used in
her 2/17/00 post Re: Consummations (something tells me I should start with
that old favorite of Camille's, _Pale Fire_):

"Like Nabokov's `waxwing slain through the false azure of the window pane' -
slamming into the window in our world but passing imperceptibly into the
next in spirit - Buddy is the one who hit the window, while Seymour is the
one who kept going."
