I can see no guilt in reading stories, or in directing people to where
stories are available to be read. I have misgivings about the typing
up and posting to the public at large stories whose author (damned
author again...how can I show my face in the Department?) has been
explicitly trying to purge them from that same public at large.
If Salinger didn't give pencil stub who read those early stories, it
would be a different matter. But he does. And so it is the platonic
form of "author's wishes" I am inclined to support.
