Methinks that Fish doth Flounder,
While Northrup Frye had sounder
Means of making sense
Of texts and all their contents:

Read widely! Read well!
Tell all self-serving POMO's
To go straight to hell.

OSR--When, on Wednesday next, I've climbed to the top of the Cartesian Well
that currently holds me prisoner, I intend to purchase what sounds like a
wonderful new history of the New Yorker. In the meantime, could somebody
who's already had the priviledge fill us all in on the intriguing little
snippet that sneaked out here a few days ago: The fiction editors forced
JDS to add the opening scene to APDfB. Yikes! I can't imagine the story
without Muriel's conversation with her Mother. The Seymour/Sybil section,
if it were to stand alone, would seem almost as barebones as haiku.... (And
if THIS is the kind of information that can be gleaned from that HUGE New
Yorker Collection in the NY Public Library, I think it's the patriotic duty
of every resident New Yorker in the bananafishbowl to wiggle their dorsal
fins down to 42nd Street and 5th Avenue RIGHT AWAY!)
