Malachy McCourt said, of his time as a child in Limerick, that there
were plenty of Catholics in the country but few Christians. I always
thought it was an intriguing sentiment, raised, as I was in Catholic
school until college.

As far as Lenny and his "sisters of mercy," they were two backpacking
girls he found huddled in his doorway against the rain. He brought
them in, they fell asleep on the couch, and while he watched them
sleep he wrote that lovely song....
