I agree there probably is the theme of walls in many JDS stories. I haven't
really looked for them in all his stories, but it would be an interesting
theme to explore in Salingers work.
To strengthen the cloister/wall theory for DDSBP I would add that DDS hears
one of the Yoshotos moaning through their bedroom wall. I would suspect that
this is one of the Yoshotos trying to communicate with the other over their
mutual walls even in sleep.
I notice that DDS in one month did eighteen oil paintings, seventeen of
these were self potraits. Creeping solipism or maybe not so creeping.

love is. Coming out from behind your walls of safety and meeting at the
corner. Which is dangerous-- when you put too much of yourself out to
someone else, and let your guard (wall) down you can get hurt. But it's the
only way to really love anyone completely. And not loving can hurt worse
than getting hurt from allowing yourself to love
someone. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone just shook those rain wetted branches again, good good stuff.
