That's a good, close reading. See, it always seemed clear to me that Teddy
was predicting his own death, as he made some predictions about the doctors
examining him. The scream would be that of his sister. Teddy, too self
possessed and too ready to accept death with complete indifference (besides
knowing it was coming), would not have screamed falling into the pool. His
sister, however...being a young soul (as well as a young person)...I can
believe she would scream upon seeing him fall into an empty pool --
especially if she pushed him in assuming it was full.
