one problem a future 'ellmann' will have is that many
of salinger's contemporaries are dead. shawn,
maxwell, burnett, lobrano, perelman, olding, judge
hand, his sister doris ....

and i wonder about the paper trail. the maynard
letters are gone; and supposedly the 500+ to olding.
though i imagine other important correspondence will
come to light after his passing.

how much manuscript material will survive?

i do think if one looks carefully at 'dream catcher'
there are nuggets of biographical info (concerning
pre-1955) to be had.

but the big question is: will there be more stories or
is 'hapworth' the finale.
