Jennifer -- Be prepared for antiSalinger sentiment as you go through
college as well (if you go through college). I was an English major, and I
had an advisor who constantly snubbed any questions/references to Salinger
in my work. He told me that jds had ben quiet for so long he was
irrelevant. I was ready to strangle him. I didn't. I just told him that I
thought Joseph Conrad was fairly irrelevant (the guy loved Joseph Conrad).
I didn't score any points. Besides, I enjoyed Heart of Darkness and
Nostromo, so I was only half serious. Anyway, just remember, Salinger isn't
for everybody. Thank God. I prefer to have our own little cheering section.
